I have a new computer with XP Home edition installed. I get the following error messages when I try to install two new software products : [1] Office 2003 Professional: "A required installation file P2561407.CAB could not be found." and [2] Norton Anti Virus 2004 I get an "Error 1335, The cabinet file "cabs.m4" required to run this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from CD, or a problem with this package.

The OEM manufacturer of the pc has provided two new XP Home Edition boot diskettes and the problem continues to exist. Of course, the OEM manufacturer indicates it is a software problem only Microsoft can resolve

Any suggestions on how to resolve the problems I encounter whejn trying to install this new software: [1] Office 2003 Professional; [2] Norton Anti Virus 2004; and [3] Desktop Software for my Palm Tungsten W

Hi,

Both of those files are specific to the programs you are installing, they
are not from Windows. Try cleaning up the installer.

Start/run services.msc, scroll down to "Windows Installer" and double click
it. Stop the service if it is running, set the startup type line to
disabled. Click apply/ok and reboot.

Delete the contents of the temp folders, there may be a file in there
interfering with the setup routine of the installer. Get both:

C:\Windows\temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temp

Now reverse the first set of steps and reenable the Windows Installer (You
can just set the startup type to manual). Reboot.

Turn off all other running programs, especially your antivirus software. Use
ctrl+shift+escape, if necessary, to "end task" on everything.

Now retry installing some software.
