I am hopeful someone can help me with a printer problem. I am not technical
so bear with me on the description and please be easy on the response.

I bought a new computer with Windows XP Professional Media Center on it.
Everything works fine except I can’t get my printer to work. I have an HP
1012 Laserjet that worked perfectly with my old computer. When I try to use
the plug and play feature or download the drivers I get error messages. The
printer is connected directly to the computer on a USB cable.

The computer says it sees the HP Laserjet, but first I get a message “The
instruction at 0x00000000 reference memory at 0x00000000 could not be
written.â€, then it will attempt to load the drivers, get to the very end and
then it will back up the process saying the installation cannot be completed
as the “RPC server is unavailableâ€. Sometimes I get “Spooler subsystem App
has encountered a problem and needs to close†if I have the printer plugged
in when I start the computer.

I have run several virus, spyware, and registry cleaners and no problems
found.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Dear Cari - thank you for the reply but this article sounds over my head.
Should someone with little technical experience be doing these things like
deleting files etc? I don't know half of what they are talking about. Is it
really easy or am I likely to cause more harm than good?

Secondly, I have tried both doing the software before plugging it in and
after and neither one works.

Hi Cari - okay, I took a deep breathe and tried it. Then I loaded the
printer drivers on, got all the way to plugging in the printer - and the same
things happens - got the message about 0x0000000 referenced memory, then it
rolled back the installation and said not completed due to RPC server
unavailable.

Thank you so much for trying - any other ideas?

It didn't work either. Darn, this looks like it is too hard and I'll have to
pay someone to fix it. Thank you for trying.

Thank you all for your help - I solved it by removing all the files out of
c:/windows/system32/spool/drivers/w32x86

Again, thank you
