with IE open, go to HELP tab up top, then click "about internet explorer". that will tell you the version. as far as your problem, it could be a number of things. explain a little more please.

Is your internet connection working ? Dial-up/broadband ?
You could try to run the connection wizard again:
Tools/internet options/connections/setup
Post back in this tread with more info if that doesn't do
the trick
