a few days ago, i posted a message abt my comp auto
restarting..

i removed the newly installed 512mb pc2100 dimm memory
chip and went back to what it was before - 256mb (128mb
each) pc2100 simm. it seems like the constant auto
restarting is gone. however, i don't know whether it's
bc i removed the new memory (which might be faulty?) or
bc i wasn't surfing the net as often as i was the other
day (or using whatever program i was when it crashed on
me so frequently). so, i don't know what is cauing the
problem. i will get the memory exchanged for another one
and try again. any idea?

now that i am just using the orig mem i had in there for
almost a year, it seems fine, but two problem is occuring
to me. when i'm on ie6, sometimes it would pop an error
message screen saying that something is wrong and i have
to close it. and that the work might be lost. i think
when i clicked to end ie, it closed all my ie windows
(not sure, forgot already). and i got this Application
Error message now (also from ie6): The instruction
at "0x1a40dbf5" referenced memory at "0x635f28ec". The
memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the
program. i don't recall what i was doing when this
popped up. i might have either closed an ie window or
was just in ie doing nothing (i don't remember). i have
a few ie window opened, but it didn't close all my ie
windows. pls help! thanks

Next thing to try would be using the 512 stick only. If system is still
stable, check details about your system board. It may require the 512 stick
to be placed ahead of the 256. If the system is not stable with only the
512, you have a dodgy stick of RAM. Most companies have a guarantee on
their RAM. You should be able to arrange an exchange or refund.

i didn't try the 512 stick alone. i went and got an
exchange for the identical 512 stick. haven't tried it
yet. when i had 768mb in there (when it kept crashing on
me), the 512 was leading. it was 512 dimm, 128 simm, 128
simm.

Am glad that you were able to get the RAM exchanged. May want to check the
manual for your system board. There may be special directions or
restrictions about implementing simms and dimms at the same time.
