Does this help?

Some antivirus programs tend to cause an assortment of problems
in Windows Mail, often not immediately. What if any antivirus
programs do you have, and have you ever had a Norton or McAfee
antivirus program on that computer, even if it was one of the free
trial versions that often come already installed on new computers?

I run with AVG 7.5 Internet Security. The laptop came with Norton which I deleted.

Did you uninstall the Norton program, then run this cleanup program
to take care of what its uninstall program often fails to remove? Just
deleting the icon which helps you start it doesn't do much.

When you installed the AVG program, did you use the standard install?
If so, it often helps to uninstall it, then do a custom install where you
tell
it to leave out the parts that scan email.

You may even need to remove your email account under Windows Mail,
then restart Windows Mail and add the account again.
