Can anyone tell what the following messages are and how to eliminate?

"midsmss.exe The application failed to initilize because windows is shutting
down." I also get the same for pjl2100c.exe. Every time I reboot, restart or
shut down both these messages appear for a few second and then they disappear
and the system finally shuts down. Also, when system is running the hour
glass keeps poppin g up like its trying to open an application. Could it be
related to the above exe files. Checked the task manager and they are not a
running under the process tab. Running win2000 OS. All AV and spyware
programs updated and scans found no viruses. Any ideas on what these are and
how to remove would be appreciated.

Can you find these files on your computer? What does it say in the
properties information? Does it say which company make it, or does it
give other useful information that could help with a search on the net?

If it plagues you when you start the computer then it stuck itself in
one of the startup locations on your computer. Try one of these to see
if you can isolate it:

Also look in your Services Management Console for suspicious services.
Be careful in there! Don't disable or turn off services if you're not
sure of their purpose.
