Error message

I have Windows XP Home edition. Error message: Windows
could not find this file:
c:\WINNT\SYS32|dskcompat.exe. I used explorer to
search for the file and could not find it. I do not know
what the file does, but my computer seems to be working
okay. How do I get this file and therefore get rid of
the error message each time I boot up. Thanks for the
help

You probably have a trojan.

If you confirm that its a trojan then the following
information (courtesy Kent W. England, Microsoft MVP for
Windows Security) might help

Trojans are stealthy and not always found by anti-virus
software. If you find suspicious processes running or task
manager or regedit is being killed after opening, you
might want to try one of the following tools to check for
trojans (after scanning with at least two anti-virus tools
to get rid of the easy stuff).
