I hooked my new laptop and desktop together today and was so proud until I
tried to print. Error message "Printer settings could not be saved. Operation
could not be completed" keeps popping up. I even tried shutting of all
firewalls. I can share files OK and have even changed a file in the laptop
from the desktop. The laptop is brand new and has no priters installed. I
have two printers (Epson stylus C86, and Lexmark printer/scanner) hooked by
USB to the desktop. I assume I missed something that won't allows printer
sharing.
Thanks for your help.

Check you have Admin rights on your new notebook..... and that the printer
is set to be shared on the other PC.

Thank you Cari for your reply. I checked that I am administrator on both PCs.
I also read the article. My problem is that when I click on "Share this
printer" in the printer/fax area, that is when I get the error message
"Printer settings could not be saved..." and it goes back to "Do not share
this printer" All the posting I have read assume that it just is a given
that "share this printer" will be accepted. Do I have something in a setting
area somewhere else that will not allow me to "Share the printer?". I have
AOL and not much else. I try to keep my computer as simple as possible.
Thanks again.
Dale
PS I haven't installed any printers on the laptop. According to the article,
it should copy or use them when I connect to the printer thru the desktop.

Verify that File and Printer sharing for Microsoft Networks is installed for
your network card.

Network control panel
network card
right click / Properties

Also make sure you can share a folder. If you can't share a folder this has
nothing to do with printing.

Thank you Alan & Cari for your time. Alan; I found what you said to check,
and all four boxes in that window are checked. I shut off both firewalls (AOL
Security Center & Windows) and unintsalled and then reinstalled the printer
but to no avail.
I found some articles close to my problem in the knowledge base but none
that could help correct this problem. I can share files between laptop and
desktop, so I think that whenever I want to print a file on the laptop, I'll
just go to the desktop and pull the file from the laptop and then print it.
It's a few extra steps, but it works for now. I looks like it's time to call
in the Geek Squad from Best Buy.
thanks again.
