Hello friends,

I get this error message when I try to drag&drop/import a
video file into the Microsoft Movie Maker that came along
with the Windows XP Home Edition (no updates to the Movie
Maker):

Translated from Norwegian:
"<filename> could not be imported. An interface has too
many methods to start events from".

Any suggestions?
Grateful for any help!!

This is a coincidence! I just joined this group to get answers to the same
problem. Glad to know it's not just me...

"C:\Documents and Settings\Richard Poynton\My Documents\My Videos\Canada\TV
Schedule(0).0004.mpg could not be imported. An interface has too many methods
to fire events from"

What's going wrong?

In short MPEG2 format movies are not supported in Movie Maker. If you really
want to edit them in Movie maker you should be prepared to convert them to
an avi format for editing and then convert them again to Mpeg format for
making a dvd video.

Use VirtualDubMod to convert them to uncompressed avi.
http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/

On the other hand if you want to avoid huge conversion steps which can
degrade loose quality, you can consider using some other tool to edit the
mpeg clips.

Ummm - two different clips, created in exactly the same way, using the same
software and hardware, with the same file names (.mpg).

One worked - one didn't...

So are you SURE (?) your answer is correct?

MPEG-2 files can act strangely.... just when you think it's working,
something will happen. It's too much of a risk in a project.

If it's acting good enough to use Movie Maker to convert the MPEG-2 file
into a DV-AVI or WMV file, consider yourself lucky.

Een interface heeft teveel methoden om gebeurtenissen te starten is the
message in Dutch :)

I'll give Virtual Dub a try.
How come Windows Media player ( I assume it uses the same codecs as MM ? )
can plat the file, but windows movie maker has trouble with it ?
