Please copy and paste a copy of the Error Report from Event Viewer.
The report will still be there.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Hi Spiderman,
= Alg.exe is a Microsoft Processor for (ICS) Internet connection sharing
and Windows Firewall, although it is it can be used by a virus/Trojan as a
backdoor to your system.
It can be found in this path:
"C:\Windows\Ssytem32\alg.exe", if you have another Firewall installed and
keep both Windows and the Third Firewall been Turned On, you will have a
confilect between the two and the Third party will give you a warning that
the alg.exe is trying to access the internet or something like that.
First is what happen before the Error comes (i.e. new softwares installed,
hardwares with firewall) to get the message?.
What applications you are runing on your computer now?.

=Try to scan for Malwares/Graywares and viruses and see if all clean or not.
Run this command in the Run: sfc /scannow click [OK] you will need your
XP CD
You can do a system restore to an earlier date and see if that will solve
the issue.

P.S what kind of connection you have set up now and hardware used.
Regards,
nass

Application Layer Gateway Service error

Spiderman, I get the same error, always on my screen when I get back from lunch. I then figured that it had something to do with my McAfee virusscanner, which always checks for updates at that time (I scheduled it for that). It makes sense because alg.exe has something to do with the XP built-in firewall and 3rd party software. Do you have the virusscanner configured to do auto updates? Do times you get the error correspond with the update times?
