When I try to run a special needs game by Topologika it no longer runs. I get
an error message

16 bit window subsytem
C\:windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running
msdos and microsoft windows applications

I have an advent pc which came with windows XP preinstalled, all I have in
the way of a windows cd is a recovery disk for the whole system.

The only change between the game running and not running is installing SP2
and subsequently removing it via system restore.

I would appreciate simple advice as I am no technical bod.

Thank you for any help

Did this problem start happening immediately after installing SP2, or
another update on Windows Update?

There's a simple walkthrough that will generally solve the problem here;

http://windows.dasmirnov.net/troubleshooting/commonproblems.php#autoexec.nt

Or the Microsoft knowledge base article here;
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=324767

Service Pack 2 should ideally be re-installed as it does contain a mass of
new security features and improvements.

Hope that helps!

Hi tmreddy,

You can solve that problem by replacing the file:

1. Browse to C:\WINDOWS\repair
Right-Click and Copy the file named: autoexec.nt

2. Browse to C:\WINDOWS\System32
Right-Click in that window to Paste the file
(Answer yes if prompted to replace existing file)
