I already have a few sites published through various hosting companies
(Unix/Linux) and have been making periodic updates with the FrontPage 2000
for the past several months. Beginning last night, for the first time, I am
unable to access my servers to update my sites. I am getting an Error message
" You do not have permission to access this Web Folder location".
Consequently, I cant access the websites to update. Please Help!

Hi J.

I assume you are using the FrontPage publish feature and are not using ftp
at all. If your hosting account has a control panel that allows you to
repair or reinstall the FrontPage extensions try doing that.

If not then ask your host to run a check and repair on the extensions and
also take a look at the way your permissions are setup.

Thank you Joe. But I am having this problem with multiple servers with
multiple hosting companies. So I thought it might be a FrontPage 2000 issue
rather than the server. I will try your suggestion and see what happens. I
hope initiating a FrontPage extension repair won't erase the web pages.

Hi J.

Ok then maybe the problem is with your FrontPage installation locally then.

There are two things that I can think of to try.

(I no longer have FrontPage 2000 installed myself..however I think it is
still the same) From the help menu try running a repair of FrontPage...you
will probably need the CD during the process.

Try going over to Steve's site and downloading and running FrontPage
cleaner. This utility will clean up a lot of .temp files among other things.
Run it with FrontPage closed..you can find it here:

Any repairs of FrontPage, re-installation of FrontPage extensions, or the
running of Steve's utility should not harm the content of any of your
existing sites.

Thanks every one for your suggestions. I am still trying to get a fix for the
problem. Uninstalled and re-installed the local FP client. Got Steve's
software download and cleaned up the FP. Contacted the host - no fix there.
Uninstalled the FP extensions on the server to solve potential corrupt
extension. Will re-install in an hour and see what happens. So far no change.

Thanks again for everyones help. If you all have any additional
trouble-shooting ideas or potential fix for this problem, please keep it
coming!

UPDATE: It appears that the problem is NOT with the host/server. It looks
more apparent that its my local FP Client. I was able to get some one else to
access the server with their FP from another location. So ... any one got any
ideas why my local FP Client might be behaving this way? Would appreciate all
the help I can get! Thanks.

UPDATE GOOD NEWS!!!
Got the problem fixed. Local FP was not the problem but rather a compression
software that was installed on my computer. It usually works very well with
surfing, uploading and downloading data. But for some unknown reason(s) when
local FP is launched it sends the error. After turning off the compression
the FP worked like a charm. So I ran the FP several times with and with out
the compression software on and concluded that the culprit was the
compression software.

Thank you all for taking your time to respond to my post. Have a great
week-end.
