I am using Powerpoint 2003 and
I cannot open my powerpoint presentation from the shortcut as it comes up
with the error message "file name".ppt not valid win32 application.

I CAN open the presentation by opening powerpoint then opening going to open
file and browsing for it.
Once presentation is open I have tried to SAVE AS file type powerpoint
97-2003 & 95 presentation
but then get message
you are saving "File name".ppt in a format compatible with Powerpoint 95
and later.
Saving a file in this format will remove any restrictions and may increase
the size of the file.
Do you want to save the file in this format.
When I say YES it says you are attempting to save a file type that is
blocked by your registry policy setting.
Just one other thing to mention !! I did install Trial version of Office
2007 but uninstalled it. Could this have caused this problem ??

Seems like a file association issue. Right-click on your .ppt file and
select "Open with..." menu item, select "Microsoft Office PowerPoint" in the
list of programs, check the "Always use the selected program to open this
kind of file" box, click "OK" button. Your .ppt files should now open
properly in PowerPoint 2003 from Windows Explorer.

Hi John
My problem has been put right now, but in answer to YOUR Question --
The only reason I was saving in 97-2003 & 95 format was that when I did a
'SAVE AS' I thought that was the format I needed to use from the drop down
list in order to use the file in Powerpoint 2003.
Should I have just Saved as 'Presentation' from the drop down list ??

Thanks a lot. It was a file association problem. Was pointing to powerpoint component. Redirected to powerpoint only and it worked.
thanks
