Error Message on simple formula

This may not be the answer you're looking for but I have
experienced the same problem on some formulas. Where if I
enter the formula myself I get an error message but if I
used the dialogue box, the dialogue box would give the
correct formula result - but it would still end up giving
me an error message. I finally figured out my problem was
the cell where I was typing in the formula was set
as "text" and not as a "number," "percentage" or whatever
it should have been.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. The cells where I'm trying
to enter the formula are formatted as 'General'.

I've been playing with it this morning and it's got me
mad! If I type the entire formula with no quotation marks,
press enter, I get the #VALUE! error code. If I then go
into the formual and add the quotes manually and press
enter, it returns the correct answer. BUT, if I type that
same formula in a new cell exactly as it reads, now that
it is correct, I get another error box. Something 'weird'
is happening with my quotes or the quote symbols.

Any further thoughts are greatly appreciated. Please email
to bwasson @ drvc.org as well.
