I have a new computer with WinXP and Office97
I transfered the My Documents folder's content from the old one that had
Win98SE.
The transfer was done with a CD. Of course I unchecked the 'ReadOnly' option
on all the files and subfolders once they were copied to the Hard disk.
Whenever I open a document (word, Excel) I get the following erro message:
(Excel)
A document with the name 'xxx' is already open. You cannot open two
documents with the same name, even if the documents are in different
folders.
To open the second document, either ...
In word the message is slightly different. The document is already open by
user 'xx' Do you want to make a copy.

The point is NOBODY has the document open!!

How are you opening the files? If you are opening the files outside
the application (other than using File/Open) then it sounds like the
File Association needs to be recreated.

Go to Start/Run and run the following:

excel /regserver
winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.

Thank you very much for your help.
Please confirm that it is /regserver for excel and /r for winword.
