error message - no longer a valid entry

When I enter one particular contact name on the address line of a mail message, instead of the email address filling in I get an error message that reads 'The name or distribution list has been deleted and is no longer a valid Address Book entry.' I've tried setting this person up as a new contact and deleting the old one, but I still get this error message. My contact has 2 email addresses (both with large national providers), and I get this error message no matter which email address I use. Make it go away!
