"Failure - Security Options -- Logon process has failed to create the
security options dialogue"

I get the above error message after i hit ctrl-alt del to see why my pc has
suddenly gone very sluggish/fails to respond & the hard disc access appears
constant. Any ideas please?

Running Vista ultimate using windows live onecare, no other anti virus etc.

Also noticed that applications (FF2, Outlook) report (not responding after
initial boot. This is when the above error is noticed.

After a few minutes (5) they start responding and the CTRL-ALT-DEL brings up
the Task manager and no more error reported.

I see quite a few people on other forums are also having these issues,
obviously no one at MS has had them......

Yes it is too bad no one seems to "hear"

It happened again this am - very sluggish and lots of "not responding"
messages... 5 min later all is fine.

Seems to be something that happens during the initial bootup.

Hi Jeff,
Do u find u get alot of HD trashing as well then it responds? Agree I often
get it after an initial start. I kinda gets stuck then responds after 3-5
mins..

LOL maybe we should just do our own tech support.....

Allygash,

I'll take a listen to the HD next time.

I'm going to pop over to the Dell support forum (as my machine is a Dell)
and see if they have any ideas.

Jeff:

Did you ever get a solution? I have exactly the same problem but doubt
the DVD or CD drives -- they have been installed for months if not years.

Barrie,

Been on Holidays for a while.

Still slow load, but I just get in the habit of starting Vista and then
wonder off for a while before returning.

Hi I am having the same problem on on of our company Laptops.

I have insutructed that the worker use safe-mode for now but this is not
feasible in the long-term

Has anyone found a solution to this ?

I've had this problem for months. As far as I know at present, nobody has
come up with a solution. The suggestions so far seem to be: Hard drive
problem, Power saving, anti virus programs etc. The one thing that has not
been mentioned is a Vista bug. Ctrl-Alt-Del normally brings up the Task
Manager, Switch user etc. but I suspect in this case it is trying to bring
up the logon screen.
In my case the problem occurs when I leave my machine idling for more than
10 minutes, run windows CompletePC backup that freezes almost at the end.
If I leave my machine long enough after the freeze, even the logon failure
will not appear. The only solution I have is a disruptive shutdown and
reboot. So if I want a drinks break, I shut the machine off or put it to
sleep.
