Hi,
I'm running XP with Outlook 2000. I'm trying to do a
mail merge to fax in Word 2000, and faxing through
Outlook 2000. The point I get stuck is when I tell it to
merge, it says "Outlook cannot find a match for" (the
first fax # on my list). The data source for the fax
numbers is my Outlook address book. I have confirmed
that the fax numbers are there in the "business fax"
column in my address book. I searched the knowledge
base, and it was reported there that the cause of this
error is not having Outlook as your e-mail manager. I
went to Internet Explorer and reset the program options
so everything is set for Outlook. (It was previously set
to Outlook Express). I still get the same error after
after making this change.

Other settings I've made: Outlook is set to have "fax
services", I have added the Win XP fax option from the
add/remove programs, I have configured the fax console.
I am capable of faxing from other programs by
using "print" and then selecting the fax machine as the
printer.

What else should I do?

Thanks!
Kim

Hi Russ,

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately, I tried this
and am still getting the same error. First I tried +1
(xxx)xxx-xxxx format and that didn't work. Next, I used
a user defined field, typed the fax number in as xxx-xxxx
(it's only local #s). Still get the same error message.

The error message says "cannot find match for 877-3699".
This is the fax # I have listed in user field 1. So MS
Word appears to be connecting with Outlook and able to
read the data file and find the correct fax numbers. I
have also tried to start a mail merge from within
Outlook. I get the same results.

Did I do this wrong, or should I try something else?

I"m also having the same difficulty with e-mail
addresses. When I type in the name of somebody in my
contact list in the "to:" portion of the e-mail, then try
to send, I get the same message. Cannot find match
for "Jane Doe".

Thanks for your help,
Kim

Did you read the instructions?
The format for the Fax number must be:
[fax:555-1212]

Thanks for your help, Russ. Yes - I entered the numbers
in the correct format xxx-xxxx. But it still couldn't
find a match. What else should I try?

Then your Outlook Address Book Service is either not installed or configured
correctly. Check its settings.

Hi Russ, can you point me in the direction of what
settings I need to check. When I go to "tools",
then "services", I have "address book service" listed in
the window. I have the contact folder saved as an
address book. What else needs to be checked?
Thanks,
Kim

also tried entering

.

But you're saying your email addresses don't even resolve, right?
Remove and re-add the Outlook Address Book Service and make sure it is
directed to the correct Contacts Folder.
Ensure that Outlook is your default mail program and Contacts Manager.
