Error message Avast updater.

Avast antivirus has been telling me about an update of the software for
the last couple of weeks,,However when I trie to update I get this
message:Error,,cannot connect to server.
This happens with or without the use of a firewall.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Eskay,

I had this happen too--five or six times. The message that came up on
my laptop each time warned that canceling the update could corrupt the
program. That seems to be what happened. I don't think the problem is
at Avast's end, as I was able to download the program update on two
other machines at the same time that my laptop was hung up.

I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling Avast, and then the download
worked with no problem. The only problem was the tedium of getting all
the virus updates on a dial-up connection (I've had Avast on my machine
for almost a year). But such problems are minor compared to those I
used to have with Norton. :)
