Whenever I shut IE down I get an error message that says it has encountered a
problem with IE and will have to shut down (right after it shuts down). But I
told it to shut down!?? How do I prevent this?
Thanks, Bernie

Probably a malware infection preventing IE from shutting down properly.
So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?

Bernie:

Did you get a resolution for this problem? It appears to occur after surfing
the net or using Outlook for awhile. I reinstalled I.E.6 but didn't delete
and reinstall the updates. If I fix the problem I will come back here to post
what I found. Here is the advanced info I get without an error code:

Hi,
Problems when closing IE are usually caused by a third-party program,
toolbar, browser add-on.

If running IE6 SP2, disable add-ons from IE> Tools> Manage add-ons.
Re-enable them one at a time to see if the guilty party shows itself.
ToolbarCop from http://windowsxp.mvps.org/toolbarcop.htm can help find and
remove add-ons.

If not caused by a legitimate program, this may be a malware problem
(adware, spyware, hijacker, trojan, etc.)
