I get the above message when attempting to run a scan from the start scan
button on the "Home" screen. Has anybody else seen this or have a solution?

I've encountered the same error when trying to run the "start scan" from the
home page after starting the reccomended once-a-day scan.

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1051.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1186.0
Signature Version: 1.14.1315.1

running
Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
(2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)

(All critical and optional security updates as of 03/10/06 downloaded and
installed as well)

I too have encountered the same error when trying to run the "Start Scan"
from the home page of Windows Defender

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1051.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1186.0
Signature Version: 1.14.1315.1

Windows Live OneCare Version: 1.0.0960.8
Antivirus definition version: 1.6.1319.2
Firewall policy version: 1.1.20.15

Windows XP Media Center Version Service Pack 2

I have Windows Defender quick scan set to run at 10 pm. Quick Scan ran
normally on March 10.

Hello RebelFlag,

This is a well documented issue which has been posted across, in particular,
the Announcement and General Discussion newsgroups. There has also been some
input from the MSFT guys regarding the issue. Using the search function type:
Invalid Pointer and you will see what I mean.

I hope his) post is helpful, let us know how it works ºut.
