I am having some problems with my operating system on my original SAT
drive. I reinstalled the OS and it still has problems.

I have another SATA drive and I would like to load the OS on tha
drive, boot from it, reformat the original drive and use it as th
storage drive. I disconnected the original drive, repartioned th
second drive with the recovery CD, formatted the partitions an
reinstalled the OS. However, when it reboots, it gives me "erro
loading operating system

I know the SATA drivers are installed, so that's not the problem.
just don't know why it will not boot from this drive.

Any ideas

My system is as follows

Asus A8NSLI mob
Athlon 64 3500+ CP
Hitachi 160 GB SATA drive #
Seagate 300 GB SATA drive #2 (the one I want to boot from

Are you sure that they are the correct sata drivers for the motherboard tho
?

That would explain your problem if they arent.
I just don't know why it will not boot from this drive.
Any ideas?

After trying and trying, I still can't get this drive to boot. I'v
checked the drivers on the working C: drive and they are the sam
that are on the D: drive

One thing that I noticed during the startup screens references th
original working 160 GB boot drive as "LBA, SATA" vs. th
new 300 GB drive (the one that I want to boot from now) as "CHS
SATA".

I thought that these were terms for IDE drives, not SATA drives. Whe
I look in the BIOS in the IDE drive config choices, I see the CHS
LBA choices, but under the SATA drive confirguration, I don't se
these

Does this have anything to do with why this drive will not work

The new drive functions correctly as a storage drive, but will no
boot from the drive when I disconnect the original drive

HELP!!

The message comes from the MBR when an Int13 fails to read the
partition bootrecord.

Either that is a bad block or the CHS call is invalid, using a CHS com-
bination that is different from the CHS translation settings in BIOS.

Usually one runs Svend Olaf Mikkelsen's Findpart to see if MBR and
BIOS settings match: http://www.partitionsupport.com/utilities.htm

No, they apply to what you are calling IDE drives and to SATA drives.

You should have both set to AUTO.
Does this have anything to do with why this drive will not work?

Very likely.
