Error: Invalid Pointer

I got a prompt to say I hadnt run a scan in 3 days.

Click Scan:

msgbox (ok) with text Windows Defender encountered an error: 0x80004003.
Invalid pointer.

Scan fails.

( Note: If I go to Scan on the Tool bar it is successful)

AMD Athalon 64 Processor
3500+
1gb Ram
Win XP - all services packs and updates.
 
This is a bug. It is known to Microsoft, but not fixed in code distributed
thus far. The workaround is to do the scan via the menu choices, rather
than using the button.
