error inserting an excel file

When I try to use insert file and insert an excel file I get a Could Not Load
error message - included in the path is Temporary Internet
Files/FrontPageTempDir.

The FrontPageTempDir folder exists in the TEMP folder not the Temporary
Internet Files folder. I have searched the registry and can not find a
reference to the path so that I can change it to TEMP rather than Temporary
Internet Files.

Word Docs insert fine. Copy and paste works, but then I get embedded style
in the html which I do not want - I want my css to control the table and I
don't want to edit out all the style junk from each cell. (Saving an excel
file as html also includes all of the style junk embedded.

Previous versions of FP allowed me to insert a file without all of the
embedded junk. Does anyone know how to change settings or a reg hack that
will change the path from the Temporary Internet Files folder to the Temp
folder.

The reg hack did allow me to change the path of the FP temp file. However, I
am still getting Can Not load file message. But at least the path is correct.
I checked the FP temp dir, sometimes I see a temp file, sometimes I do not.
If the temp file exists I can open it with excel and it looks fine. At this
point I'm not sure why FP is not able to either create the temp file or read
it if it does create it. I'm open to any other suggestions.

Just for completeness sake here is more info:

OS - Xp Pro 2002 SP2
FP - FP 2003 (11.5516.6568)
Excel - 2003 (11.6560.6568)
 
The temp file is only created w/ a random file name when you open a page for edit in FP
It is deleted when you close the page for edit

Yes, I understand that, What happens is:

I try to insert the excel file into the html page with FP editor. I get the
could not load message with the temp file name - before I respond to the
alert in FP I go to the temp directory and the file has been created there.
If I open the file in the temp directory with Exel it will open fine and the
contents are correct.

So now my problem is to try to determine why FP can not open the temp excel
file that it created (knowing the temp file has been created properly). As I
mentioned earlier this process works fine with a .doc file, just doesn't work
with .xls file.

Perhaps this is a false message and the problem is really with the converter
process. Either way, I'm not sure where to look next to try to resolve the
problem.

Avoid open external file types from within FP, export the file to your desktop and then open in the
correct application.
