Error in using Word as e-mail Editor

I am running Outlook 2000 on a Windows XP machine.

Prior to installing Office, the computer alrady had Office XP files
installed by the manufacturer and needed a product id code. Since I had
purchased the Office programs on my own I decided to use that one instead of
the manufacturer's one.

All the files (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) work great.

I just started using Outlook, and I imported my outlook.pst file from my old
Windows 2000 professional operating system onto my new Windows XP system.
All the files came over properly and my e-mail account is set-up and
functioning properly.

However, when I clik on New (message), I get the error, "This form requires
Word as your e-mail editor, but Word is either busy or cannot be found. The
form will be opened in the Outlook editor instead. "

I have gone under Tools => Options => Mail Format => and placed checkmarks
in Use Microsft Word to edit e-mail messages and also checkmarket Use
Microsft Word to read Rich Text e-mail messages.

Can anyone help me fix the issue of getting Outlook to Open New Messages or
Reply to Messages using Microsoft Word.

Thanks.

If you dont need to use word as your editor turn it off (uncheck what
you have checked). Are you using the correct version of Outlook with
Word? I would make sure you only have one installed copy of office
and use the outlook version from that copy.

1) Outlook needs the same version of word to use it as the editor. But
typically, that feature is disabled when they don't match.
2) Did you try detect and repair?
3) see if
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329382&Product=wrd
applies. Or http://support.microsoft.com/kb/166050.
