Error in loading DLL

Using Excel 97 and Win 98 SE. Recently removed some software from the
system using the add/remove software tool in Control Panel. Since the
software removal, I now get an error message every time I launch Excel. The
error message has Microsoft Visual Basic in the title bar, and says "Error
in loading DLL". Clicking the Help button brings up a help topic for Error
48. I did a reinstall of MS Office 97, but it didn't fix the problem. I
then uninstalled Excel and reinstalled, still no joy. I reinstalled the
previously removed software, no help. I originally also had a similar
problem in Access '97 after the software removal, but the MS Office
reinstall solved that one. I suspect that a DLL file needs to be
re-registered but really don't know. Anybody have any thoughts as to the
best way to fix this?

I have no idea if this will work, but the next thing I would do is completely
remove xl97 and reinstall it.

(There are lots of DLL's out there. Good luck.)

Thanks. I did do an uninstall of Excel and a fresh re-install, but no luck.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to try a complete uninstall of Office 97 and a
fresh re-install of the whole suite, then apply the service patches.
Perhaps using erase97.exe as well. Sigh.
