Hello
Could an error in CD recording happen because of a CD insertion into a
secondary IDE slave DVD drive? The CD was recorded in a secondary IDE master
CD-RW drive. The IDE cable is 40 wire. The IDE controller is Ultra DMA 33.
CPU is P3-750.

Hi;
Respecfully buttin in and asking...
Anyway you could install a 80 wire considering its much "cleaner" properties
both signal wise and static/interference wise?.
I'll grant you that it's not a must be that way solution.
A "it happens sometimes problem" needs generally very little of a boost by
an helping hand to vanish.
It's worth it.

Yes it can! If the CD recording does not use a "burn-proof" type of
recording buffering technology, then the DVD is requesting the use of the
IDE channel.

Yes.. This happens a lot on an IDE bus. Only 1 operation can take
place at a time on the bus. If both CD drives are on the same
controller, then the operation for one drive is suspended while the
other drive has control of the bus. If you happen to be burning a CD,
and the other drive takes the bus, then you are left with a coaster.

Most machines nowdays can do other things while burning a CD, but you
still do not want to do anything that would cause the same IDE bus to be
used.
