"error in c:\windows\wismdq.dll
Missing entry:iep"
This error message appears now every 2 seconds. I have checked for the
wisdmq.dll and it is there in Windows folder so I was wondering if it
is supposed to be there or not.
Any advice welcome.
TIA.

PS. I have run a Malwarebytes check & it appears to be "unwanted" so I
have removed it and the error messages, SO far, have stopped.

Well, that file is not on my XP Pro SP3 system and it is not a Windows
Protected File. Sounds like some leftovers from some other
affliction.

Sometimes malware will assume a file name that looks odd - like that
one. There are generally notbe too many .DLL files in c:\windows
anyway - the XP ones are usually in c:\windows\system32, so it is even
more suspicious.

Sounds like it could have been leftover from something or some other
anti-something removed most of a previous affliction. Sometimes the
scanners can't remove every trace.

MBAM is a good choice when weird things start happening, I would run
SAS as well since it is also good and if MBAM found "something", there
could be something else. No single scanner seems to know about
everything so use a couple good ones.

Perform some scans for malicious software, then fix any remaining
issues:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if desired.

Thank you, Jose. I also believe in more than one "anti" program.
I'll try SAS now.

I noticed this on a forum recently:
