I have Outlook 2003 set up to automatically backup the .pst file
periodically. This has been working fine until the last few days. Now I am
getting this error message "Cannot copy Outlook: The process cannot access
the file because another process has locked a portion of the file."

I also tried a manual backup and recieved the same message.

What to do to correct this problem?

It is. The backup function has been working fine for some time and just
started giving me the error.

Make sure that Outlook is closed before backing up the pst file.

Maybe Outlook is closed but the outlook.exe process is still running and
thus still locking the pst-file.
See http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/outlookdoesntclose.htm
