Error in automatic update of definitions

The automatic update function only appears to be
installing spyware def's 5680, even if I have a new
version of the spyware def's.

In this particular situation, I can manually update my
defn's to 5685. However, when the automatic updater runs
it "updates" it back to 5680.

Any suggestions?

Do you have North American English version of 2003 with the localized
settings also to North America?

Sorry... 2003 of what?
I'm running Windows 2000 with SP3.
Office software is MS Office 2000
I'm in Australia so assuming I'm running Australian
versions with settings set to Australia.

Further to the above, I've turned automatic updates off,
leaving the option to advise of new definitions turned on.
However, I'm not being advised of new updates.
