Get above error and the message "The program can't check for definition
updates."

This error happens when I start Windos defender and click "Check for updates
now."

Checked for workaround on Microsoft but there are solutions for all
0x8024.... errors except for this code. Any help out there?

Kind regards, Stephen Young

Take a look at these posts and in particular the comments by "wwp1848" and
"Rich Hutchins". Note that part of the suggested fix involves switching
from Microsoft Update back to using Windows Update (check mark at the very
bottom of Microsoft Updates screen). Give these suggestions a try, and see
if it helps with your 0x80240029 error, as it has helped many but not
everyone with this Vista problem.

Here is how to fix htis so the error dissapers and you are able to use
Microsoft update also:

Boot into safe mode
Open Windows explorer
Open the Windows folder
Find the folder named SoftwareDistribution
Rename SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.old
reboot
Run update (at this point a new SoftwareDistribution folder will be created)
You should be fixed

Thanks for that Steveh;

As I remember you loose the history of your past updates if you do that.
Probably not so great a loss, but good information non-the-less, since
you'd probably loose it if you switched over to using Windows Updates as
well. Either way I think the bottom line is that the distribution database
is broken and needs to be re-created if your getting that 0x80240029 error.
Correct me if this isn't an accurate description, since I've not done this
fix personally.

Great, a new KB for the 0x80240029 error as of April 4. Thanks for the
alert Fireplug, thousands will be helped with this...
