I get this message when I want to connect to the internet
through the send/receive in outlook. I can't find out
how to fix this. Help please.

This doesn't sound like an Outlook error but a dial up problem can you
connect to the internet without starting Outlook i.e. by just starting the
dial up.

Yes, I can connect to the internet via my desktop
Explorer icon. Then I go to outlook and can run
send/receive. If I simply go to outlook and click
send/receive to log on (as I used to be able to do) I get
the error message 623.

As far as I can tell, they are. This all started because
of some problem over the weekend which resulted in my
having to set up a whole new connection under network
connections and a corresponding email account in outlook
after something went mysteriously wrong in my account.
After my isp helped me solve it I ended up getting 2 of
every email so I figured I'd delete the extra email
account. Along those lines, I thought I'd clean up my
old internet connections listed under network
connections. My husband has a different ISP and mine had
been the default. Now, I'm unable to designate either
one the default--another mystery.

Hmm the mystery here is that Outlook doesn't do any dialling up by itself it
just uses the connection that you tell it to use, what version of Outlook
are you using. Where have you tried to set the default dialup connection,
have you tried Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections Tab.

I have outlook 2002 with XP. When I connect via my
explorer icon, the connect box (where I type in my
password) show my husband's MSN connection. I change it
to my isp, connect, then go to outlook and everything is
fine. I just can't connect right in from outlook. When
I go to network connections, I see the MSN connection and
my connection--rcn. Neither one of them has the check
mark indication it is the defautl, and when I try to set
either one as the default, nothing happens.

If you have all the details and settings I would be prone to remove
everything in Outlook relating to dial up as well as the dial up connectoids
in network settings and then restart the computer and then readd just one
dial up and then set up the email account in Outlook, test and if okay add
in the other dial up.

Thanks. I think that probably makes the most sense. My
husband is going to be removing his isp sometime soon
anyway so I'll wait til then to do all this. The current
situation is merely inconvenient--at least everything
still works!

Thanks for all your help.
