During the startup of Windows XP during the welcome screen an error box
appears with a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it. There is a
yes button and a no button but there is no message in the box. I have no
idea what the error is and selecting "yes" or "no" does not appear to make
any difference to the operation of the system. I downloaded the latest
update of my virus software and ran a scan but the system is clean.

Can I run a step by step process through the installation to pinpoint the
problem?

What can I do?

Thanks

Go into the Administrative tools in your control panel and open the event viewer. Look for any red Xs in the Applications and System logs. Double clicking the red Xs in the right panel will open a detail window with all the information you need to post back here for a more accurate answer. What is in these windows you probably won't understand so either copy the info down and post back with it or right click on what looks like two overlapping pages on the right side of the details window and that copies it to the clipboard. Now when you come back here and open a post window you can right click in the body of the post and choose copy and the entire window will be copied into your post for us to help. Good luck

Start -> Run type msconfig, press enter, see what is loading at start up.
Try unchecking something, see if it goes away.
