I am doing a clean install of W2K on an HP PavillionN5450
laptop. Setup fails to copy files during the second phase
of installation, just after clean reformatting to NTFS:
During the second phase of installation setup will copy
files from CD to HD (just after formatting HD), at
approximately 17% progress an error is displayed saying
that files cannot be copied. Every time I try to run
setup same error occurs but displaying a different file
name, therefore it is not a problem with a specific file
nor with the CD since I have tried 2 different and
original W2K disks.
*I've upgraded my BIOS and disabled almost everything.
*I've tried setup by coping I386 to HD, booting from a
DOS floppy and then running winnt.exe, but problem still
occurs.
*I've tried setup by creating and running W2K boot floppy
disks, still same problem.
*I've tried formatting to FAT32 (instead of NTFS), still
same problem.
*I've tried formatting to FAT32 using a DOS floppy and
then installing with out reformatting, same problem.
*I've re-installed the original OS that came with the
laptop using the manufactured provided recovery disks and
WinMe will install with no problem!!!! I will then run
Scandisk and no problems are found!!! I will then run
Partition Magic disk troubleshooting utilities and no
problems are found!!!
Any ideas?
Thanks
