Error Connecting to the Internet when trying to do manual updates

Has anyone else got this error? My internet connection is
fine, but when I try and run the update from Microsoft
Anti Spyware Beta I get this popup box.
 
With little satellites on it? Yes, its checking for updates. If it hangs,
close and restart your computer then try again.

If you mean the error about the proxy settings, yes.

Have you tried the auto-update app--does it give you the same error?
