Out of the blue I just started getting an error that my username and password
don't match in Windows Mail so it won't check my email. This is the message:
Account: 'Windows Mail', Server: 'pop.suddenlink.net', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR invalid user name or password.', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Yet........I can check the same account via webmail using the same login
credentials. Can anyone help?

That type of error is often caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off.

I'm using the Trend Micro Pc-cillin. I've turned the email scanning off and
I'll restart my computer and see what happens.

I'm sorry and thank you for your help. It dawned on me to try to put my
entire email address as the user name and then the password. It worked this
time. Though I still found it odd that it started asking for this info when
nothing was changed.
Thanks again!

Glad to hear that problem is squared away.
We responders usually assume that the user is entering the username and
password as required by the mail provider, but you remind us that nothing
should be taken for granted. ;-)

Account: 'windows mail', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers.
Uncheck the box for "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."

i dont think i have an anti virus installed because norten was a pain & it
costs money to get another one i have windows firewall and i made windows
mail an exception.

Did you see my response, which was posted 87 minutes prior to your
latest post?

I suddenly can not receive my email, either GMail or my ISP. No changes to
the computer, no updates etc. Another user still receives email on another
user account, sam ISP. Anti-virus is AVG. Error is

Server Response: '-ERR invalid user name or password.', Port: 110,
