I'm at my wits end. Windows automatically updated on weds and since then i
can't get into MSN windows live messenger. My background was pink - its now
blue and get error code 80040111. I've re-installed it and still nothing!
I'm also getting a pop up on the bottom right saying i have to free up disk
space on the D drive but there is nothing in there except a norton folder!!
I'm really at my wits end!! HELP!!

I am having the same problem, and I have not found a solution either. It is
from the recent updates and it seems to to a common problem with no solutions
as of yet. Most people with this problem, myself included, also can no longer
use microsoft/windows update. So try running update again, and if it states
that the files required for windows update are no longer registered or
installed, and keeps looping back to the same error, then ur in the same boat
as me and a lot of others. If this is the case then go to the windows update
section and make a reply with the other posts, cause the more posts, the more
likely a solution will be found.

Same thing for me since wed. have not been able to log same error message...I
hope we get a fix

The D drive i have got sorted out as i thought MSN might require more disk
space (? God know why>!)
BUT STILL getting the same error code, i'm just trying to re-install MSN so
wish me luck guys! If anyone has any solutions????? I mailed Windows about
this twice now - had 1 reply but no reply to the other mail I sent - how
dissapointing

if you get any information please let me know .... I am lost without
msn..instant messenger.....thanks

Sounds daft but where can i run an update and where do I check the windows
update - where it says no longer registered or installed?? Thanks

I have problems with using Windows Live Messenger.
When I start Windows Live Messenger, instead of showing my normal display
picture with my e-mail address there (so I can just type my password and
login), I see a 'generic' display picture with no e-mail address. Windows
Live Messenger lags tremendously. When I type my e-mail and password
(subject to huge lagging), Live Messenger will just display an error
message "Service temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

Looked into Connections in the Options, there is an error between the
modem
and the internet. Repaired it, the error is gone, but still unable to
connect, with same message.

Upon system restore to a state prior to Windows Update, everything fine.

Once update reapplied, everything reappears, with exact reproducibility.
System Restore returns to state where everything is fine.

Any ideas of what is happening? If it's a real error, can anyone bring
this
up with Microsoft?

"dotski" wroSome details I forgot to add:

The problem only occurs after a Restart has been done after the Windows
Update.

Prior to the restart (but post-update), everything still works fine -
including Windows Live Messenger, able to chat with friends.

Once restart, the problem occurs. Please note that there is no problem
whatsoever with my internet connection, browsing on IE 7 has no problems at
all.

Programs loaded at startup includes Trend Micro PC Cilin Internet Security
2006, Windows Defender.

Using Windows XP Professional SP2 (all updates fully applied). Runs Intel
Centrino with 512 MB RAM.

Many thanks.

Hey all, I got a fix that solved my messenger problem and my windows update
problem. The fix was provided by "TaurArian" a MS-MVP, from the Windows
update thread. So hope it helps you guys out, cause it worked for me, just
follow these steps exactly, and let us know if it works for you:

Some have reported that simply re-registering the MSXML3.DLL seems to fix the
problem.
1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type: regsvr32 MSXML3.DLL
Press okay
