I have experienced this error code since the installation of SP1.

I keep my system up for weeks with IE7, Eudora, Windows mail for newsgroup
open all the time. Since the installation of SP1, when I attempt to
retrieve newsgroup message headers after a long period of inactivity, I get
the subject error. I merely do another retrieve and every thing works fine.
It is quite likely due to the long period of inactivity between retrieving
message headers. I don't necessarily consider this an error, just a
difference since SP1.

Anyone have a positive answer to this difference.

Take a look at your firewall settings, make sure the newsgroup client has
permission. You can temporarily disable the fw, to check if it is the cause
of the problem. Also, take a look at your router/modem settings if the
firewall settings seem ok.
