I would really appreciate it if someone can give me a step by step solution to this headache ... I spent too many hours online trying to find a solution but nothing yet :(

BullGuard v8.5 (trial version)

Thanks in advance,

I would never have entertained installing it in the first place, even if it was free. ;)

There a are far better alternatives, even Norton 2009 ... ... OK, laps of thought there ... try ESET NOD32 or Kaspersky

err, ang on ... what software you tryin to install??

You say you got Vista, the error is pointing to XP ...

No wonder you is pullin your hair out. :)

good point with the XP thing.. however I know I have Vista...I'm not that ignorant...hehehe ..

a friend of mine has windows vista and installed the software with no problems

sorry, that don't help me either ... :o

That particular error message is usually caused by a corrupt registry entry and equates to an MS update error, in your case, it seems to stem from XP. ... the most common reason is caused when new programs are installed over old ones that are not completely uninstalled 100%, causing registry pile ups and of course, error messages.

Try this ...

Thanks for your help so far..
I've visited the site you inferred..and did the following steps:
 1. Stop the Automatic Updates service. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service, and then click Stop.
 2. Minimize the Services snap-in.
 3. Rename the SoftwareDistribution directory. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
Type cd %windir%, and then press ENTER.
Type ren SoftwareDistribution SDTemp, and then press ENTER
 4. Type exit, and then press ENTER .
EXCEPT that in step "h" ... when I type "ren SoftwareDistribution SDTemp" ..it says access is denied !!

HEEEELLLPPPPPPPP :(

You got the Vista DVD?

Boot to the DVD & do a repair. :thumb:
