Hello Ron,
You will get better traction on this question on the Windows Update support
newsgroup:
<
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&lang=en&cr=US>
Post there, along with whether this error came up on-screen, or if it is
from the Windowsupdate.log file. Also, state whether this happened during
the scan phase, download, verfication, or installation phase.
And if it happened on a particular update item.
In your post there, include a snippet from the Windowsupdate.log
You may have seen the error on-screen, but the log file may have a slightly
different error notation.
See if there is an "error" for the date(s) when you had this problem.
The log will have an entry (entries) with Error that would help to pin-down
your pc's problem with Windows Update functions.
Find C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log (your system may have Windows at
\WINNT)
Use Notepad or Wordpad and take a look at (usually C:\WINNT or
\Windows )
%windir%\WindowsUpdate.log
Scan down to the bottom. Review contents.
You need to look for entries marked "Error" such as 0x......... (where
....... are numbers)
See KB 902093 How to read the Windowsupdate.log file
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902093
Also, just to get the Error from update history:
Go back to Windows Update, but then select View update history. (When you
first get to website for Microsoft Update-Windows Update, look at left-hand
column, under Options. Press "Review your update history".)
If this is on V6 of Windows Update, you should be able to click on that
error note (the red X), and see some info.
