I have seen many people having problems with this same error code during
installation, I have posted in another person's post for help and nothing
yet. So, let me try posting and see if this gets me anywhere. Here is the
problem:
During installation of RC1 32-bit version, I get an error message saying
"Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for
installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code:
0x800706F8"
Here's what I have for a computer:
Pentium 4 2 gig Compaq Evo
768 MB ram
Western Digital 20GB hard drive
Seagate 60GB hard drive
Here is what I have tried:
Downloaded the software, varified it with HashCalc and NeroMD5Verifier, both
say that the download is good
Burned three discs all at 2x speed, which is the slowest my drive will go,
using Nero
Burned two discs, also at 2x speed, with Ulead Movie Factory because it's
the only other software I have that will burn an image
Downloaded a Western Digital utility to test the WD hard drive, it tells me
that it is fine, no errors
Did a full erase of the drive with the WD utility
I have tried loading Vista using the registration key during the install and
I have tried without providing a registration key
Does anyone else have any suggestions? The only other thing I can think of
is a bad DVD drive, but I really don't think that is it and I don't have
another one readily availible.
Is it possible to copy the disc to the hard drive and do an install from
there? Would that benefit me at all? if so, I would love for someone to
tell me how to get that done, because it's been too long since Windows 98 and
I can't remember how to do that.
Any and all help is very welcome!
