error code 0x80004005 when trying to run DirectPlay Audio Setup

Thats pretty much all there is to know about this problem. I can't get my microphone to work on my computer. I have used it before, so I know it isn't a problem with the microphone itself. And the error code 0x80004005 keeps coming up when I try to test the hardware to fix the mic. Help please.
