My 6.5 year old Dell started to act flakey. It would not complete a full
backup to an external USB drive. Fortunately I was able to do some partial
backups, plus had a full backup that was about a month old.
Anyway I went to Windows Explorer and the C-drive Properties, Tools.
Selected Error-Checking and selected all the options. Of course it asked if I
wanted to schedule the check for the next time I start the computer. Yes.
Upon start the error check begins. At around Step 5 it freezes. I waited
over an hour but nothing is happening. Now HD light or HD noises. Unplug and
start again. Same thing. Tried things like holding down the shift key and
hitting the ESC key while booting up. No joy.
I bought a new computer and was able to recover most of my files. However
there are some music files still on the old HD. The new computer has
different power and data cables so I can't plug in the old HD. Any other
ideas? How about putting the old HD in an external USB drive case? Recovery
disc?
Thanks,
