error check in xp

i tried to do an error check of my hard drive. now all
it wants to do is keep looping back to the error check
over and over each time i try to start the computer.
some kind of error message keeps coming up when its part
way through the check (the message pop up and is gone so
fast i can't read it) then it starts over again. i have
tried to do a soft boot but it didnt work. please
help! want my puter back, cant stand using hubbies slow
puter.

Try booting into Safe Mode, and run Ckdisk from there.
