Windows XP Home froze during a service patch update. Now
I'm get a stop error c000021a after the Windows XP screen
appears. How do I recover from a failed service patch
install?

Do a System Restore to just before you did the patch attempt. It should take
you back to the old condition.

If you need any further information on the c000021a Stop Message, go to
http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm and click on "21A" near the bottom of the
menu at left. But I think your real solution is going to be to revert to the
way things were before you started the patch installation.
