error address list cannot be displayed

I need to rebuild my machine so I did a winzip81 of my outlook.pst files to a
seperate drive, then did a complete rebuild. once completed, I did a
winzip81 extract to the local settings. When I attempt to send e-mail and
press the To: I receive the error the address list could not be displayed.
The contacs folder associated with this address conung not be opened... it
may have moved or been deleted.

When I open the shortcuts I have two references. one in the personal
folders and one in a folder named plaxo backup. My main folder has all my
contacts.. the plaxo only has a few contacts.

Question: how do I fix this problem and then delete the plaxo backups.

Any help would be greatly appriciated and Thanks ahead of time

You must configure Outlook to use its data source. Simply copying files will
not do that.

I am seeing the same error message as of this morning. I have not
knowingly done anything. When I click on Contacts on the left side,
everything is there, but when I click on To in a new email or reply, I get
the error message.

No one has told us anything yet.
List the exact steps you used to transfer data.
List the error message you received.
 
I did not transfer anything. I have a new PC and the transfer went OK and
Outlook has worked for the last week. But this morning, all of a sudden,
it was using Word as my email editor. I have no idea how that got turned
on. I found the checkbox and got it turned off. Then the next time I went
to send an email the correct editor came up but it couldn't find the
contact list, which does exist. I piggy backed on this thread because I am
seeing the same error message as the guy that started this.

I've never seen Outlook change its settings all by itself. There must be
more to this story than that.
What is the exact error message?
 
The error message is:

"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated
with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or
deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove
this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Outlook Help."

When you click the OK on the error dialog, the normal address selection box
comes up, but is empty. Since my Contacts in Outlook are intact, I don't
understand why the address selection dialog is empty. Aren't the contacts
part of the outlook.pst file? I am certain the outlook.pst file has not
been moved.

But didn't you say your were running this automatic backup program that you
were getting error messages from?
Stop using it. It appears to be corrupting your Outlook data and profile.
Contact its manufacturers for assistance.
 
PS This error message simply means your Outlook Address Book has been
corrupted by something you are doing.
It is not unusual for the Outlook Address Book to "lose track" of the
connection to its Contacts Folder when you move or import your PST or update
your Outlook version or operating system. Use the following steps to reset
the connection. Note that in some instances you may actually have to remove
the Outlook Address Book completely from your Profile, close Outlook, and
then re-add it before you can get it to work.

Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right
click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is
the box to enable as email address book checked?
If this is grayed out...Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change
existing directories or address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present?
If it isn't listed, add it and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed,
then remove it and close then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add
it.

Aha. It's not nice to confuse me by jumping in on a thread. When you said
you got the exact same error message, I assumed you were.
