Hello All,

I'm having some issues adding the Outlook Address
Book service on an Outlook 2002/XP client running Windows
XP. I go to Tools - Email Accounts - and select "View or
change existing directories or address books" and attempt
to add the Outlook Address Book. The action seems to
process correctly (there are no error messages) and I get
the confirmation that it is necessary to restart Outlook
before the change will take place. It's important to note
that at this point I don't see the Outlook Address Book in
the list of services once the add supposedly takes place.

Upon restarting Outlook (and the PC for that matter)
I still do not see the Outlook Address Book in the
services list. When I attempt to re-add the service again
I receive an error message that "This account or directory
type exists and cannot be specified twice." Any help or
assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

What do you men by "service list?" Where are you looking for the Outlook
Address Book? What happens when you open the Outlook Address Book?

Create a new profile. This one may be corrupt.

Russ,

Thank you for the reply. Allow me to clarify...
When I go to Tools - E-mail Accounts and select "View or
change existing directories or address books", I am
presented with a list of all the current address books and
directories (for example, LDAP, Outlook Address Book,
Personal Address Book, etc.) The list that displays each
of these things (when they are added of course) does not
contain anything in it. When I click the Add button and
attempt to add the Outlook Address Book, I get an error
that "This account or directory type exists and cannot be
specified twice." The problem is that the Outlook Address
Book item does not appear in the list (as if it hadn't
been added) and appears not to be working correctly within
the Outlook XP/2002 client. If you have any additional
suggestions or information it would be of great help.

Russ,

Thank you again for your reply. The account in
question is running against Exchange, so I'm assuming
the "profile" information is stored on the server. How do
I create a new profile in this case? Delete and recreate
the user?

No. I suspect the profile settings that are corrupt on the local machine.
Can you create a new profile there using the Mail icon in Control Panel?

Russ,

Thanks a lot for all of the help. After your
previous reply, I went to the Mail icon in control panel
and attempted to recreate the account. This still
provided the same results and error message. Apparently
there was an issue on the machine where a lot of things
were becoming corrupted. Unfortunately I found this out
after the fact. I did a "Repair Office", re-created the
user profile and this seems to have solved the problem. I
appreciate your time and attention to the matter and am
very grateful.

Thanks again,
