We upgraded our old NT4 PDC to w2k domian. We also
install a new w2k as a member server. After the upgrade,
I tried to add the new w2k as an additional domain
controller, but got this error " Failed finding a
suitable domain controller for the domain xyz.com, the
specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted. Our DNS is still on NT4, WINS is on NT4 & W2K.
Can somebody help please. Thanks.

Active Directory needs Windows 2000/2003 DNS to function, so you must start
using your AD DNS server. Point all your servers and clients to your
internal AD dns server and not anywhere else. Use forwarders or secondaries
on your DNS server to resolve other domains. the error you are getting is
DNS related, as NT4 dns does not know about SRV records which are needed to
resolve DC's in AD network.

Thanks for the responses. Our main DNS is still on NT4, I
am going to upgrade that to w2k, and that will upgrade
the ntdns to w2kdns. Thanks.

wow! you upgraded NT domain to W2K without upgrading the DNS! I didn't know
that you can do it. DNS must support SRV records inorder to install a
domain controller.

Thank you for your response.
Are you saying upgrading our current NT4 DNS to w2k will
solve our problem?.
