First verify your VISTA download with a MD5 hash check (Nero offers a free
program download). You can Google search for the correct checksum result
whether you have the 32 or 64 bit version of VISTA and copy and paste it in
for the correct result.
Verify your burnt DVD image by checking the "verify data" option when you
burn your disk (I use Nero).
If all of the above checks out, then you can be pretty confident your disk
is good.
NOW FOR THE CURE!!!
In my case, I removed an AMR modem card (PCtel HSP) and the install went
fine. I presume there are still quite a few hardware items that cause VISTA
to lock up. Try your install with just the necessary essentials (video card)
and add the rest of your hardware after you get everything up and running.
