I had just used a dvd disc to install the new beta of windows vista on my
custom pc earlier today. Later in the day I attempted to install this on a
laptop. I encountered this error code. I attempted to install it as an
upgrade through windows xp pro and it failed. I also tried it through
startup on restart. I even went to the extent of purchasing a new hard drive
for this laptop to try on a new partition. It still failed. Through my
troubleshooting I have concluded that the hard drive has no influence on this
error. The disc has no influence, neither. It could have something to do
with other hardware settings. It seems through others' problems that the
error may fluctuate dramatically during the install. Thus, my hypothesis
concludes that the RAM *does* have influence on this problem. The RAM may
not need to be faulty, but the latency/size/type/speed/make/model/product
line of the ram may have an effect during the setup. Keep in mind that this
is just my hypothesis and it is most likely farfetched. I believe I have
found a reasonable solution for this problem:
1. Put your hard drive in a computer in which the install completes
successfully
2. Install to that hard drive
3. Put the hard drive back into your computer after the install, allowing
for your hardware to be installed
Reply if it works. I am trying it tonight so I will update, too. Good Luck
all
